RE: How often do you replace your tires (diesel MH)?

The tires will likely deteriorate faster from the sun than from miles. We did ours at 5 yrs/55K miles. I think 5-7 (max) yrs is the recommended replacement time.

RE: DO FIFTH WHEELES HAVE MORE ROOM

For the same overall length, the 5ver has more living space and lots more storage space than a TT. A TT is measured from tip of tongue to back bumper so about 3-4' is not living space. A 5ver is all living space except for about 14-18" king pin box. Overall, the 5ver's total rig length is shorter since there is living space over the bed of the truck. And the 5ver is much easier to tow. We've owned both and much prefer the 5ver.

RE: Land Between the Lakes

One of the few sites on the water in Hillman Ferry is #41 - it very large and at lake level. Don't know about its hookups, tho. HF has some full HU sites but none are on the water. Nice cg.

RE: My dogs got a stress fracture...What to do?

Doesn't look as if you have any options - a stress fracture will heal as long as it doesn't get any additional stress on it. Otherwise it can turn into a major problem. I would consider the house a confined area unless your vet was more specific. Perhaps you could consider cutting down on the frequency & length of your outings so he is not alone so much. Your leaving him alone might cause him to get so anxious that he could re-injure himself running around the house, too.

RE: travel route ?

41 is unlimited access divided 4 lanes from Terre Haute to Evansville IN. It is good 2 lane from Henderson KY to TN line. Haven't driven further south on it. Of course, it goes through a lot of little towns.

RE: Traveling with another couple

WE have made one long trip with another couple. We stayed together, stopped whenever one wanted to for whatever reason. We kept in touch w/2 way radios. We alternated fixing supper for all 4 of us - the cook for the night could call for an "eat-out" meal and then take her turn the next evening. When we were parked, they are not early risers, we are - we settled that by telling them the night before what sightseeing we planned to do and when we planned to leave. They were welcome to come with us or make their own plans. It worked very well and we all had a great time. They'd like to do another trip so as soon as they can arrange the time, we will go somewhere again.

RE: Closest Campground to Ames, IA

There is one at Story City - That is about 10-12 miles north of Ames. My BIL/SIL live in Ames and when we were there last year, that was all that was available. We wound up boondocking near them in their condo development.

RE: towing 4 wheels down

The steering wheel stays loose, transmission in neutral and it will follow you anywhere.

RE: Yellowstone

Have you researched the Yellowstone website? It would be a fair distance to drive across the park and out the other side - 50-75 miles maybe. Yes, some of the sites are really tight to get into - we had a 33' 5ver, longbed king cab F350 dually and not a lot of skill, trying to back into a space with very little maneuvering room. After several failed attempts on our part, a professional truck driver from a couple of sites away took over and stuck it right in, bless him!! Then parked our friend's 28' 5ver as well.

Short answer - no. You get a very small discount if you are but it is not required.

RE: Route from Lake City FL to RGV

We just came across I12/I10 from I55 to Houston. It has good spots and bad spots (rough concrete joints for a few miles near Lake Charles) and some construction. More good than bad this trip, tho. Can't speak to NO - didn't go there.

RE: Cat litter on floor.

The covered litter pan sets are really the best answer but even then, some litter will be tracked out. Mostly the litter outside the box at our house was from the dogs searching for "cat snacks". The lid pretty much stops that, too.

RE: Reasonable/Realistic "Miles Per Day" average??

Once you get into the Yukon/AK areas, you can figure 300 miles pday absolute MAX. Less on the days you make stops which will be most days! Road conditions will limit you to 50 mph most of the time, less thru construction areas and on the poorer roads. I would request all the brochures available from the AK tourism dept plus the Milepost- between them you will have everything you need.

RE: Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park (Jacksonville, Fl)

Some of the sites are very large, others not so much. Most have some natural scrub, trees, etc. between them. Overall, a nice park. We drove our 38' MH w/toad & friends drove F350 crew cab dually & 30' 5ver on interior roads, no problems.

RE: Passport

We agree with with having a passport. The gov't has been postponing the requirement but it is now scheduled for Jan 09, I understand. They will offer a govt ID card at some point but they will cost about $90 so you may as well get a passport and be done with it. Besides, during busy times at the border, they set up a separate line for those with pp and it is much faster. BTW, the passport is for returning to the US - no ID is necessary for entering Mexico.
